Beauty in art- an over used term that we still have to talk about.
Some say this is the entire point of art. This is why we photograph. Others say it is an archaic notion that cannot be applied to the 21st century when art seems to have spilled out of its defined borders into the surrounding areas called the web, the streets and even the odd spaces like lockers.
I have recently had a few questions asking me what gear I use for phone photography. This is all of the general gear I throw in my backpack in various combinations depending on the shoot or occasion.
The entire idea with me starting this blog was to talk about how to photograph and travel in a very minimal way without giving up the quality of the capture. (Plus a few sprinklings of conversations on art of course!)
Each item here is a purposeful choice and added weight for my bag. If I were to throw everything listed here in a bag it weighs not even 10lbs. However, I typically only take part or pieces for local hikes and outings; while traveling it all goes with me.
Photographing in the rain can be tough. It feels dreary and often uninspiring when all the lighting is an overcast diffused gray. However, I have to get over this and shoot despite the weather.
As you know I am an avid hiker and try to get outside and at least once a week. In my current location and the surrounding areas it rains….ALL the time. I live in the Pacific Northwest, home of green and lush forests, but this means rain for about half the year. The video above was one such day on a hike.
The same can be said for some of our travels. An equally dreary place was Ireland that held a similar climate. We visited in the summer and were able to experience some glimpses of sun, but the constant spitting of rain was common.

It is the “Moment” you have all been waiting for! 🙂 I officially upgraded my Moment V1 lenses for the V2 lenses. There is a significant difference between the two Moment lenses. The improved glass allows for rich colors, not as many blown out pixels and less vignetting from blurred edges. We all know vignette should be a choice!
Moment lenses have been my go-to gear since I started turning towards my phone more often for photography. They allow for a sharper and more refined image than what your phone can provide. I especially love the fish eye lens for the fun perspectives that I can capture. In more recent weeks I have been shooting more with the Macro lens which I used to never grab. A camera obscura is a dark chamber, container or room with a singular entry point of light. Once your eyes have adjusted, the outside will appear on the wall upside down. You can see how this would be useful for artists to trace and have an accurate perspective.

Hello Fellow Photographers! Some of you have heard me talk about the Filmborn App in the past. It is my go to photo editing app for my iPhone. This is the last of the Colorado videos! I cannot wait until my next trip to share even more with you. Garden of the Gods is located right outside of Colorado Springs and offers hiking for the beginner to the advanced.
We arrived in the afternoon and had that gorgeous evening lighting that allowed the rock formations to truly shine in that bright orangey red. I love textures and was so inspired by the dessert surfaces here. Reminded me of my summers in Arizona growing up.

Here is the 3rd out of 4 videos created from my recent Colorado Trip. In this one we went to Glenwood Springs Colorado where Hanging Lake is located. Despite the drizzle it was a fantastic hike with an amazing reward at the end.

You are exposed to thousands of images everyday. They scroll in front of our eyes on Facebook, Pinterest, billboards and more. There mode of existence is your computer, phone, car: essentially technology. This new age of technology comes with an over-saturation of images and easy access. In this blog I too contribute to plethora of images being produced. It is this trend that has offered support for a sub category of images marked rephotography.
Rephotographing historical sites or even other artist’s work has been a highlighted theme in the contemporary art world. A peaked interest has been found more recently in the heavy saturation of online images.
